Regional Coalition for Experiential Education

Every spring visually impaired and blind students from throughout the metropolitan area are invited to participate in a day-long event sponsored by the Regional Coalition for Experiential Education.  The events are designed to combine fun, learning and social opportunities and are sponsored by Missouri School for the Blind, St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the St. Louis Lighthouse for the Blind, along with other local school districts, organizations and businesses.

In May, 2010, 43 teens converged on the MSB campus to enjoy “Fit For Life,” and got a chance to try shotput, tandem biking, beep baseball and judo. The students, who came from Bayless, Oakville, Francis Howell, Webster Groves and Fort Zumwalt school districts, as well as MSB, also got to experience goalball, bowling, weight lifting and nutrition. In addition to the organizations listed above, staff were assisted by USABA, Gateway Disabled Ski Program, Delta Gamma, Hammerbodies, Rehabilitation Services for the Blind, Blind Bowlers League, Disabled Athletic Sports Association and the Recreation Council of St. Louis.
