Library Cat Club

Join our club mascot, Garfield, and be a Library Cat!  Find out what a great place the Library Media Center can be.  Discover all the great books that you can read or listen to in the Library--mysteries, fantasies, romances; joke books, cookbooks, story books; science fiction, nonfiction, and general fiction--you'll find it all in the Library Media Center.

When you join the Library Cat Club, you'll not only get to enjoy reading or listening to books and stories, you'll earn prizes, attend monthly meetings, and maybe get to come to the Library Cat Club Party at the end of the semester!  Here's how you do it:

    • Decide how many books you can read or listen to this semester and make a contract with the Librarian to do that.
    • Get a book or tape from the LMC, read or listen to it, then make a brief report on it.  See directions for how to make book reports by clicking here: Library Cat Club Book Reports.
    • Give the report and the book or tape to the Librarian and get a coupon for 5 points (if the report is satisfactory).  If your book is 100 pages or more, you can earn 10 points.  (Students who are unable to make book reports have the option of reading or listening to 2 short books or tapes without doing a report for 5 points, or 1 longer book for 5 points.)
    • You may 'spend' your points right away and get a small treat or prize, or save them up for bigger prizes.
    • Each month the Library Cat Club will meet in the Library after  school to discuss books, watch a video based on a library book, and snack on popcorn and drinks--all members are invited to attend.  See a schedule for this year’s meetings by clicking here: Library Cat Club Meetings.
    • At the end of the semester, if you have met your reading goals, you get to attend a special Library Cat Club Party.  This party will be during an extended lunch period, and will probably include one of Garfield's favorite foods (lasagna and pizza), as well as games, awards and an attendance prize!
